Dear Susan Warren,
On behalf of the Marines of Combat Logistics Battalion2, Military Police Detachment, I would like to thank you and your supporters for everything you have done to support us during our deployment in Iraq. Your thoughtful care packages have done much to boost the morale of my Marines (as much for the mere knowledge that someone is thinking about them, as for the contents) and I know they deeply appreciate your kindness and dedication.

As a token of our appreciation, we are sending you an American flag that was flown at Battalion Headquarters on the 4th of July. I am also enclosing a CD that I have put together for you so you can actually see the Marines you have been helping out, and attach faces to the many names you have written on your letters and packages.

I want to thank all of you once again. I wish I could thank you in person, because you deserve it.

Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful),
SSgt. Dan Palma

To use the words of our Sailors and Marines,
“You rock!”

Thank you so much for your ongoing support of the Marines and Sailors of this battalion. Your care packages really hit the mark for what our men and women enjoy and always brighten up the day of those young Americans who have given of themselves to serve something greater than themselves.

Your support and those that work with you is greatly appreciated.

Our presence here is not supported by many at home, but I can tell you with confidence that what they are doing is contributing in positive ways for the people of Iraq. I am very proud of them and your support of their dedication is a wonderful contribution to their spirits.

3 March 2008

Two US Marines appeared at my front door, making this a not so ordinary day…..they were Capt Robert Gobie, XO from Headquaters Frederick, MD and Sgt Arthur Ross of the Rockville, MD recruiting office.

In hand was a standard red Marine Corps folder, containing a letter, along with a Marine Corps coin with the General’s name on it. They were being presented to me from General James T. Conway, Commandant of the Marine Corps. I am stunned, humbled, nearly speechless, and with sweaty eyeballs.

The letter is dated 25 January, 2008 and reads as follows:

Dear Susan,

On behalf of the United States Marine Corps, I extend my sincere appreciation for your contributions in support of the Marine Corps’ recruiting mission during 2007. You and many other quality citizens have generously given of your time, rendered assistance, volunteered, or served as representatives of our Corps within your communities. Your efforts played a key role in making 200 a successful year for our recruiters. As a result, your local recruiters wish to express their gratitude and have selected you for the Commandant of Marine Corps’ Quality Citizen Recognition Program.

Through your actions, you have demonstrated an exceptional degree of dedication to your Marine Corps – epitomizing our core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. The freedom we enjoy in this country is far more than a birthright. It is something that must be earned and secured by each succeeding generation of Americans. As a Nation, we are endowed with many blessings and an enduring belief in our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Freedom, however, is not free. Your Marine Corps is at the forefront in defending our Nation and preserving our way of life. Your abiding sense of patriotism and assistance to our recruiting mission this past year is both meaningful and deeply appreciated.

Your active support of the Marine Corps and your local recruiters remains essential to setting the conditions for the success in the New Year and securing the future of our country. Thank you for standing with the Few, the Proud, the Marines!

Semper Fidelis,

James T. Conway
General, U.S. Marine Corps
Commandant of the Marine Corps

Susan,
Good Morning, Just wanted to let you know that you are the GREATEST!!!!!!!! We could not have asked for a better person to keep us motivated and the morale high for these young men. They are the greatest and finest America has and you have done more than your share to let them know that they are Heroes and that they are appreciated and loved by fine Americans such as yourself.

On a personal note from me to you, It has been a pleasure getting to know you and to know that I had your nephew in my company for a while. Susan, you have restored what many Marines believe as they read the papers and watch the news that we are not thought about or that we are killers which is not the case. You have brought love and a feeling of home to these young men and I am truly grateful to have you as a friend.

I will be sending you some things when I return! Please stay in touch and God Bless You!!!!! Semper Fidelis!

Dear Susan,

Sorry that it has taken me so long to write back but I have been a little busy around here but not that busy that I shouldn’t have written back by now. Never the less I wanted to thank you for the boxes of goodies that you send to us. I know that this takes up a lot of your time doing this and there is just no way that I can show you enough gratitude for doing what you do for us. The Marines here are very thankful for all of the things that you pack in the boxes. When your boxes arrive you can see the smiles on their faces because they know that there will be something good in the boxes.

Oh my goodness do you really know how to pack a box with goodies from the baby wipes, tuna, hot peanuts, Slim Jims just to name a few but lets not forget the reading material as well Sports Illustrated and Ebony. There is nothing that is in any of your boxes that is wasted by any means and the Marines of the Guard Force would like to say thank you for the boxes that you have sent to us. I know that there is a list of things that I enjoy in the boxes, which turns out to be a majority of the box but I resist and make sure to share with all of the Marines in the section.

I can not truly thank you enough for the things that you do for us, all the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen out on the front line in some way shape form or fashion. Thank you so very much and much love goes out to you from all of us here at the “Guard Shack”.

2/6 Guard
